Cancún Wedding Packages & Destination Wedding Guide for Canadian Couples
Updated for 2026/27 wedding planning — A Cancún wedding puts Canadian couples on Caribbean sand about 4.5 hours after leaving Toronto, with the largest choice of all-inclusive wedding resorts anywhere in Mexico. Most of those resorts are not in Cancún itself: they run north to Costa Mujeres and south through the Riviera Maya to Tulum, all sharing one airport. Where your resort sits on that coastline decides how long your guests spend in a shuttle, so this guide starts with the map and the transfer times before it gets to packages, resorts and costs in Canadian dollars. For the country-wide picture, including Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, see our Mexico destination wedding guide.
Quick Answers for Canadian Couples
How much does it cost to get married in Cancún?
For a Canadian couple with around 30 guests, total couple investment typically runs $11,600–$22,500 CAD, including the wedding package, photography, a welcome event, and your own flights and accommodation. Wedding packages themselves range from $0 to about $8,000 CAD. Guests generally spend $2,450–$4,400 CAD each for flights, a 7-night all-inclusive stay and excursions.
How can I get married in Cancún as a Canadian?
There are two routes. Around 90% of our couples hold a symbolic ceremony at the resort and register the marriage legally in their home province, which needs nothing more than a valid passport and the tourist permit issued on arrival. The other 10% choose a legal ceremony on-site, which adds blood tests, a chest X-ray, translated and apostilled documents, and four witnesses.
How long do you need to be in Mexico before you can get married?
For a symbolic ceremony there is no minimum stay, though we suggest arriving two to three days early for setup meetings. For a legal ceremony, plan to arrive three to four business days before the wedding so the blood tests, chest X-ray and local paperwork can be completed. Timing varies by state, so your resort confirms the schedule for your date.
Is it cheaper to do a wedding in Mexico?
For most Canadian couples, yes. A realistic traditional Canadian wedding budget runs around $50,000 CAD once venue, catering and professional services are factored in, while a Cancún wedding for 30 guests typically totals $11,600–$22,500 CAD for the couple, including their own travel. Guests pay for their own flights and all-inclusive stay.
Which airport do you fly into for a Cancún or Riviera Maya wedding?
Cancún International (CUN) is the gateway for Cancún, Costa Mujeres and the whole Riviera Maya corridor, with direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. Cozumel is an island, so only fly there if you are staying on Cozumel itself. Tulum has its own newer airport (TQO), which can shorten the drive for resorts at the southern end.
What is the best month to get married in Cancún?
December through April is the most reliable window, with consistent 26–30°C sunshine and minimal rain. Early December and late April usually offer better value than the Christmas and March Break peaks. May and November are a good compromise for couples who want lower rates and quieter resorts with only minor weather risk.
When is the worst time to travel to Cancún for a wedding?
August through October carries the most weather risk, because it is the heart of hurricane season. Rates are at their lowest then, but we only suggest it for couples who put budget ahead of a weather guarantee. March brings the opposite problem: good weather, but Spring Break crowds and peak pricing.
How much does a wedding for 100 guests in Cancún cost?
A package price is quoted for a set number of guests, and each additional guest at the ceremony and private reception is charged per person. At 100 guests the biggest variables are that per-person rate, a private reception venue, and bar service. Guests still pay for their own flights and rooms, so ask for an itemised proposal built on your real guest count.
Is Tulum nicer than Cancún for a wedding?
They suit different weddings. Cancún and the northern Riviera Maya keep guests within about an hour of the airport and offer the widest choice of large all-inclusive resorts. Tulum is quieter and more bohemian, but the drive from Cancún airport is roughly 90 minutes to two hours, which matters when guests arrive on different flights.
Getting from Cancún Airport to Your Resort
Nearly every wedding group in this region lands at Cancún International (CUN) and travels by road from there. One highway, the 307, runs the length of the coast, so transfer time is mostly a matter of how far south your resort sits. The numbers on the map match the table beneath it.
Schematic map, north at the top. Drive times are typical private-transfer times from Cancún International in normal traffic; shared shuttles that stop at several resorts take longer.
| Map | Area and resorts | Drive from CUN |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Costa Mujeres / Playa Mujeres Dreams Playa Mujeres, Secrets Playa Mujeres | 40–55 min |
| 2 | Cancún Hotel Zone Hyatt Zilara Cancún, Live Aqua Cancún | 20–30 min |
| 3 | Puerto Morelos Dreams Riviera Cancún, Breathless Riviera Cancún | 25–35 min |
| 4 | Riviera Maya (north) El Dorado Royale | 30–35 min |
| 5 | Punta Maroma Secrets Maroma Beach | 35–40 min |
| 6 | Riviera Maya (central) Grand Velas Riviera Maya | 40–45 min |
| 7 | Playa del Carmen Town centre and the Cozumel ferry pier | 45–60 min |
| 8 | Akumal Akumal Bay | About 1 hr 15 min |
| 9 | Tulum (north of town) Dreams Tulum | About 1 hr 30 min |
| 10 | Tulum town and beach Boutique beach hotels | 1 hr 30 min – 2 hr |
Highway 307 is the only main road south, so allow extra time on peak arrival days. We confirm the transfer time for your specific resort before you book.
What the Map Means for Your Guests
- Under 45 minutes (stops 1–6): the easiest choice when guests arrive on different flights from different Canadian cities, or when the group includes young children and grandparents.
- 45 minutes to 1 hr 15 min (stops 7–8): still comfortable, and it opens up the quieter central Riviera Maya.
- 1 hr 30 min and beyond (stops 9–10): Tulum rewards the drive, but a delayed flight can mean a late-night arrival. Consider scheduling the welcome event for the second evening rather than the first.
Group transfers are part of what we arrange. Guests on the same flight travel together, and anyone arriving separately still has a confirmed transfer waiting. See how that works on our page about working with a Canadian destination wedding specialist.
Cancún, Cozumel or Tulum: Which Airport?
Cancún International (CUN)
The standard gateway for Cancún, Costa Mujeres and the entire Riviera Maya corridor. It has the most direct flights from Canada by a wide margin, which keeps fares competitive and gives guests the most choice of departure city and day. For almost every wedding in this guide, CUN is the right answer.
Cozumel (CZM)
Cozumel is an island, so flying into Cozumel only makes sense if you are actually staying on Cozumel. Anyone staying at a Riviera Maya resort on the mainland should fly into Cancún, not Cozumel, because reaching the mainland from the island means a ferry crossing to Playa del Carmen and then a road transfer on top.
Tulum International (TQO)
Tulum’s newer airport sits south-west of the town and can shorten the drive for resorts at the southern end of the corridor. Service from Canada is seasonal and the route list changes from one winter to the next, so many Canadian guests still route through Cancún and take the longer transfer south. If your resort is at stop 9 or 10, ask us to compare both airports for your dates before guests book flights.
Did you know? A resort with “Cancún” in its name is often not in Cancún. Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancún is at Punta Maroma, and Dreams Riviera Cancún is in Puerto Morelos — both are south of the airport, in the Riviera Maya. Check the map position, not the name, when you are comparing transfer times.
Flights to Cancún from Canada
- Toronto (YYZ): about 4.5 hours direct, with 20+ weekly direct flights
- Montreal (YUL): about 4.5 hours direct (Air Transat, Air Canada)
- Calgary (YYC): about 5.5 hours direct
- Vancouver (YVR): about 6 hours direct, or convenient connections via Calgary
Mexico sits more directly south of Western Canada than the Caribbean does, so for guests flying from Calgary or Vancouver, Cancún is usually a simpler trip than the Dominican Republic or Jamaica. Peak Canadian travel periods (Christmas, March Break, the Family Day long weekend) book early, so we secure group rates and preferred flight times 10–12 months in advance.
Flights to the Pacific side, including Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, are covered in the flight section of our Mexico guide.
Cancún vs Riviera Maya vs Tulum: Which Fits Your Wedding?
The Cancún–Riviera Maya corridor is the overwhelming favourite for Canadian couples planning a wedding in Mexico. It has the most direct flights from Toronto and Montreal, calm turquoise Caribbean water, and an enormous selection of all-inclusive wedding resorts. The three parts of it feel quite different.
Cancún and Costa Mujeres
The shortest transfers on the coast. The Hotel Zone is a strip of beachfront high-rise resorts 20–30 minutes from the airport, with nightlife and shopping on the doorstep. Costa Mujeres, on the mainland north of the city, is newer, quieter and more spread out. Choose this end if a quick arrival matters most, or if your guests want a lively setting beyond the resort gates.
Riviera Maya (also called the Mayan Riviera)
The Riviera Maya alone spans over 300 resorts across roughly 100 miles of coastline, concentrated around hubs like Playa del Carmen and Tulum, with the vast majority operating all-inclusive. This is where most of our Cancún-area weddings actually take place: large properties with several ceremony venues each, set back from the highway on their own stretch of beach, and close to cenotes, Mayan ruins and excursions.
Tulum
The southern end of the corridor, known for a natural, bohemian look and a slower pace. It suits smaller weddings and couples who care more about the setting than about a short transfer. Dreams Tulum gives you that aesthetic with a full all-inclusive resort behind it.
Why Canadians love this coast:
- 4.5 hours from Toronto with 20+ weekly direct flights
- Calm Caribbean waters (unlike Cabo’s Pacific surf)
- The largest selection of all-inclusive wedding resorts in Mexico
- Year-round warmth (even December averages 27°C while Toronto sits at -5°C)
- Easy access to Mayan ruins, cenotes and excursions
A quick terminology note: “Riviera Maya” and “Mayan Riviera” are the same place, the all-inclusive strip on the Caribbean coast south of Cancún. The “Mexican Riviera” is something else: the Pacific coastline of Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and Mazatlán.
Cancún Wedding Packages: What Canadian Couples Can Expect
Most resorts in this region offer tiered wedding packages, and the tier you need is driven largely by how many guests will be at the ceremony and reception.
Cancún Wedding Packages by Guest Count
| Guests | Typical package | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Couple only, or up to about 10 | Complimentary ($0 CAD) | Included with a minimum number of room nights at Dreams and Secrets. Built for a ceremony, not a full reception. |
| 30–50 | Mid-tier ($2,500–$5,000 CAD) | Covers the ceremony and reception logistics for an extended guest count. Room stays are a separate travel cost. |
| Larger groups | Premium ($5,000–$12,000 CAD) | Private reception venue, fuller photography and entertainment. Guests beyond the package’s included count are charged per person, and venue capacity starts to narrow the resort list. |
Package prices cover the wedding events only. How many room nights unlock a complimentary package differs from chain to chain and can change year to year.
Free Wedding Packages ($0 CAD)
Dreams and Secrets are confirmed to include complimentary ceremonies when booking a minimum number of room nights — other major chains may offer something similar, but policies vary considerably and should always be confirmed for your specific resort. A free package typically includes:
- Beachfront or garden ceremony location
- Wedding coordinator
- Basic floral bouquet and boutonniere
- Wine toast immediately following the ceremony
- Small wedding cake (serves roughly 8–10)
- Private dinner for the couple
Mid-Tier Packages ($2,500–$5,000 CAD)
- Upgraded ceremony locations (over-water gazebos, private beach setups)
- Extended guest counts (30–50 people)
- Professional photography (2–4 hours) — sometimes included, sometimes a separate add-on depending on the resort
- Live music (guitarist, trio or DJ) and a cocktail hour with premium bar
- Enhanced floral arrangements and upgraded dinner menus
Premium Packages ($5,000–$12,000 CAD)
- Full-day photography and videography
- Live bands or specialty entertainment
- Elaborate floral designs and décor
- Private reception venues (beach, rooftop or ballroom)
- Welcome event (included with some packages)
Fireworks, spa packages for the wedding party and off-resort guest excursions are typically add-ons on top of any package tier. The one notable exception is El Dorado’s all-included model, where excursions can be bundled in. Our Mexico guide explains what “all-inclusive” does and does not cover for a wedding.

Cancún and Riviera Maya Resort Recommendations
Based on proven track records, Canadian accessibility, and transparent pricing, here are our top recommendations by category. The numbers refer to the transfer map above.
🏆 Best Overall Value — El Dorado Royale (Riviera Maya, stop 4): One of the resorts we’re actively booking the most right now — all-inclusive with an excursions-included model that’s rare in this market. Strong fit for couples who want a genuinely all-in price with no excursion surprises, and only about half an hour from the airport.
👨👩👧👦 Best for Families — Dreams Resorts (stops 1, 3 and 9): Family-friendly all-inclusive with kids’ clubs and multiple ceremony venues. Dreams has properties at both ends of this coast and in between, so you can choose the brand first and the transfer time second. Popular with Toronto and Montreal families.
💑 Best Adults-Only Experience — Secrets Resorts (stops 1 and 5): Consistent, reliable adults-only experience for food, entertainment, and accommodations across the Secrets brand. Secrets Maroma Beach pairs that with a private beach and clean, contemporary design.
✨ Best Luxury Option — Grand Velas Riviera Maya (stop 6): Ultra-luxury with butler service and top-tier dining. For couples with premium budgets seeking perfection.
🎨 Best Bohemian/Beach Chic Style — Dreams Tulum (stop 9): Eco-chic resort with natural beauty and laid-back luxury. Perfect for couples wanting organic, beachy aesthetics.
Mackenzie’s group of 60+ guests celebrated their destination wedding at Dreams Tulum:
"We used Lois for our destination wedding and honestly couldn't imagine doing it without her. We had 60+ guests booking through her, and she made the entire process so easy for both us and our guests. Lois suggested a few different resorts and helped us narrow everything down until we found exactly what we were looking for. She helped guests individually with any questions they had and handled all the payments for the resort and flights, which made things so much easier for everyone."

Compare Ceremony Venues at Our Top Picks
Most resorts here offer several distinct ceremony and reception settings, from beaches and gazebos to gardens, terraces and chapels, each booked separately. The setting you choose often shapes the final look of the day more than the resort brand does.
| Resort | Beach | Gazebo | Terrace | Garden | Chapel | Rooftop | Total venues |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| El Dorado Royale | 2 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 1 | — | 12 |
| Dreams Tulum | 3 | 1 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 12 |
| Grand Velas Riviera Maya | 1 | — | 1 | 2 | 1 | — | 9 |
| Secrets Maroma Beach | 2 | 2 | 3 | 2 | — | — | 9 |
Numbers show how many separate bookable venues of each type the resort offers. A venue can count under more than one type, so rows do not add up to the total. Totals include venue types not shown above — ballrooms, plazas, poolside decks and, at El Dorado Royale, a cenote. Total venues: El Dorado Royale 12, Dreams Tulum 12, Grand Velas Riviera Maya 9, Secrets Maroma Beach 9.
If you want a chapel, the list narrows to three: El Dorado Royale, Dreams Tulum and Grand Velas Riviera Maya.
If you want a rooftop, Dreams Tulum (Sunset Rooftop) is the one.
For every setting in one resort, Dreams Tulum is the only one of the four offering all six — beach, gazebo, terrace, garden, chapel and rooftop.
For something no one else has, El Dorado Royale covers five of six (no rooftop) but adds Cenote Bonanza, a cenote ceremony site none of the others can match.
Group size: For large weddings, the biggest spaces are the Grand Velas Convention Center (1,000 guests) and the El Dorado Royale Grand Ballroom (800). Dreams Tulum tops out at 250 guests (Central Beach, Mexican Plaza and the Ballroom) and Secrets Maroma Beach at 300 (South Beach and the Ballroom), which puts both in the mid-size tier. For intimate ceremonies, look at Chaká Garden at Grand Velas (30 guests), the El Dorado Royale chapel (40), Grand Class Beach at Grand Velas (40) and Preferred Beach at Dreams Tulum (60).

Best Time for a Cancún Wedding
Peak Season (December–April) $$$
Prime wedding season, aligned with Canadian winter: consistent 26–30°C sunshine and minimal rain. Expect higher resort rates (a 20–40% premium), Spring Break crowds in March and pricier flights, and plan to book 12–14 months ahead.
Shoulder Season (May & November) $$
A strong window for couples who want a quieter, less-crowded experience with manageable weather risk. Resorts run 25–35% lower than peak rates and properties feel far more private.
Low Season (June–October) $
Maximum savings, but weather uncertainty makes this risky for weddings. Hurricane season runs August–October. Best suited to couples prioritizing budget over weather guarantees.
Canadian recommendation: Book December–April for reliability, with early December or late April offering slightly better value than the Christmas and March Break peaks.
Legal Requirements for a Cancún Wedding
The vast majority of our couples (around 90%) choose a symbolic ceremony in Mexico and register their marriage legally back home. That skips the blood tests, apostille and translation requirements entirely, and the day looks exactly the same to your guests.
The roughly 10% who choose a legal ceremony on-site need valid passports (6+ months validity beyond travel dates), original birth certificates with apostille or certification, blood tests completed in Mexico, a single-status affidavit notarized in Canada, and four witnesses aged 18+ with valid passports. Documents require official Spanish translation.
The full checklist, with costs, is in the legal requirements section of our Mexico guide. Provincial health plans provide limited or no coverage in Mexico, so see our travel insurance guide as well.
Next Steps: Planning Your Cancún Wedding

About this guide’s accuracy
We keep these pages current and we cite figures in Canadian dollars wherever we can, but resort pricing, package inclusions, flight schedules and government requirements all change without notice — sometimes mid-season. Nothing on this page is binding, and none of it is legal advice. Treat every number, including transfer times, as a planning estimate. Your resort’s wedding team confirms the documentation checklist for your specific property and date, and your specialist confirms what your package actually includes before you pay a deposit. If a figure here matters to your decision, ask us to verify it for your dates.
